Promises of God

Introduction

1.    What is a promise?

A.   Some fundamental facts about God’s promises.

a.    God is faithful to keep promises – Hebrews 10:23

b.    God is able to keep His promises – Romans 4:20-21

c.    2 Peter 3:9

d.    We can (and must) trust on the promises of God.

B.   Some things God has NOT promised.

a.    Life without difficulty – 2 Timothy 3:12

b.    Save the disobedient – Matthew 7:21

c.    Another life on earth – James 4:14

d.    Hebrews 9:27

C.   Some of God’s promises are unconditional.

a.    Meaning of “unconditional”

b.    Some promises are not based on what we do or do not do.

c.    Examples:

                                          i.    Never destroy the world with a flood. Genesis 9:11

                                        ii.    Christ is coming again. Acts 1:9

                                       iii.    Dead will be raised. John 5:28-29

                                       iv.    All men will be judged. 2 Corinthians 5:10

D.   Most of God’s promises are conditional.

a.    Meaning of “conditional”

b.    It is a requirement for the fulfillment of a promise.

c.    Examples:

                                          i.    Remission of sins Acts 2;38

                                        ii.    Forgiveness of sins 1 John 1:7, 9

                                       iii.    No condemnation Romans 8:1

                                       iv.    Meet our physical needs Matthew 6:33

                                        v.    Hear our prayers 1 John 5:14

                                       vi.    A crown of life Revelation 2:10
