DEAD BATTERIES NEED POWER

Introduction

1.     We need to plug into power – phones, tablets, computers, etc.

2.     We can’t “survive” if we run out of power

3.     Today I want to study the real source of our power

4.     Three texts will show us our power source

Isaiah 5:1-7

1.     Israel was a special nation

2.     Cleared land, planted vineyard

3.     Protected it – tower, walls

4.     Produced – wild grapes – WHY?

5.     What will God do? Tear down the walls, pull up the vines

6.     Let the weeds and briars take over

Psalm 80:8-13

1.     God brought Israel out of Egypt

2.     Cleared a good land for them

3.     Israel broke down the hedges (walls)

4.     Wild beasts will take over the land

John 15:1-4

1.     Don’t let your heart be troubled 14:1

2.     I will prepare a place for you 14:2-3

3.     I am the way, truth, life 14:6

4.     I will do what you ask in my name 14:14

5.     I will send the Helper (Holy Spirit) 14:16

6.     I will not leave you orphans 14:18

7.     I leave you with God’s peace 14:27

8.     Then 15:1-4 Vine and branches

a.     Jesus is the source of our power / life / production

b.     No fruit = cut off, thrown away, burned

c.      Bear fruit = cared for, produce more fruit

9.     ABIDE IN ME = JESUS IS OUR SOURCE OF POWER

a.     Without that source – our battery is dead
