Because We Have a Living Hope

  I. Prepare your mind.

       A. 1 Peter 1:13 To work unencumbered

       B. Ephesians 6:14 “Stand therefore, having girded your

            waist with truth, having put on the breastplate of

            righteousness”

       C. “sober” - thoughtful, careful

            1. 1 Peter 4:7

            2. 1 Peter 5:8

       D. “hope” - Hebrews 9:28 “so Christ was offered once to

            bear the sins of many. To those who eagerly wait for

            Him He will appear a second time, apart from sin, for

            salvation.”

 II. Live a holy life.

       A. 1 Peter 1:14 Act like you belong to obedience

       B. Ephesians 2:1-3

       C. 1 Peter 1:15-16 Set apart from sinfulness in God’s

            service

       D. 1 Peter 1:17

            1. God shows no favoritism

            2. “time of your stay” - temporary residents

III. Give glory to God.

       A. 1 Peter 1:18-19 “precious” - highly valued

       B. 1 Peter 1:20

       C. Ephesians 1:3-4

       D. 1 Peter 1:21 The basis of our faith and hope

            1. 1 Corinthians 15:1-4, 11

            2. Romans 15:12 “And again, Isaiah says: ‘There shall

                be a root of Jesse; And He who shall rise to reign 

                over the Gentiles, In Him the Gentiles shall hope.’”
