Waiting at the tomb

 

Over and Over Jesus told of the DBR

1.     Matthew 16:21

2.     Matthew 17:23

3.     Matthew 20:19

4.     Matthew 27:64 – enemies knew it

5.     Mark 9:31

6.     Mark 10:34

7.     Luke 9:22

8.     Luke 13:32

9.     Luke 18:33

10.Luke 24:46

Then the event began to occur

1.     Arrest

2.     Trial

3.     Scourge

4.     Trial

5.     Crucifixion

6.     Burial

On the third day – who was there?

1.     Matthew 28:1 – Mary Magdalene and other Mary

2.     Mark 16:1 – includes Mary Magdalene, Mary mother of James, Salome

3.     They did not come to see Jesus alive

4.     They came to put spices on the body to slow the decay process

Why were they not at the tomb?

1.     More focus on the kingdom and their fame / power / position

2.     Heard – but did not understand

3.     They did not believe

a.     Matthew 28:17 – some of the 11 doubted

b.     Mark 16:14 – Jesus upbraided them unbelief / hardness of heart

Let’s talk about us

1.     Why were none of them at the tomb waiting?

2.     Why didn’t they camp out in the garden?

3.     What about you?

4.     Would you have been waiting at the door of the tomb?

5.     The only ones waiting at the tomb – Roman soldiers – Matthew 27:64
