Healing From God

2 Chronicles 7:12-22

Bryon R. Schulz, Minister

Introduction

I. Mass killings are on the rise in our country and around the world – a world that has no hope outside of Jesus Christ.

A. People try to assess why this happens – the look for causes, who / what to blame.

B. They point to gun laws.

C. They need to look to the Scripture.

II. This tragic scene is deplorable, and unfortunately not the first of its kind. It will not be the last, if we do not repent as a people and turn back to God.

III. Today, with heavy hearts, we will look into a promise from God that if we turn back to Him, he will heal us.

Discussion

I. In the midst of terrible turmoil, healing is available (2 Chron. 7:12-18).

A. In context, this promise was given to Israel, however in our time; this promise is available to everyone who will diligently seek Him (Heb. 11:6).

B. The healing of a nation begins one person at a time.

1. Our children (Deut. 6:4-9).

a. The people of our nation have continued to slowly slip away from God because our children are not being taught the precepts of the Lord.

b. As long as we have breath, we have time to turn to the Lord – to correct our ways.

2. Our neighbor.

3. The man on the street that is broke.

4. Those who are lonely.

5. They need to know that they can turn to God – and he will heal them.

C. Matthew 11:20-30 D. People need direction – from the Scripture to the only God who can save their lives!

II. However, those who continue to reject God, will surely perish (2 Chron. 7:19-22).

A. Luke 13:1-5

B. Our rejection is shown in many ways.

1. Failure to obey the Gospel ourselves.

2. Failure to teach our children the Gospel.

3. Indifference toward those around us.

4. Rejection of God’s Word.

5. Apathy.

6. Selfishness.

III. Application: May we exhort those around us to be, remain or become faithful!

A. Hebrews 3:5-4:1

B. Illustration – the church of the living God is “the pillar and ground of the truth” according to First Timothy 3:15.

1. The world needs the truth.

2. It starts with us.

C. May we exhort one another while it is still today not to harden our hearts through an evil, unbelieving heart – leading us to fall away from the living God.

1. Then let us BE THE PILLAR AND GROUND OF THE TRUTH!

2. It is amazing what the Truth of God can accomplish when we let it flow through us into the broken hearted world around us.

Conclusion

I. The world is in pain. Suffering is all around us. The remedy exists in the form of a return to the Living God. Notice what we learned from Second Chronicles today:

A. Even in the midst of trial and pain, healing is offered.

B. Continued disregard and rejection of God will only compound the problem.

C. We need to return to God – and we need to exhort those around us to do the same.

II. How should we react to the lessons we learned from the word of God?
