What is so bad about sin?

  1. I believe in God. I believe Jesus Christ is the Son of God.  And I believe the Bible is the inspired, infallible Word of God.

  2. Therefore, I do not believe sin is subjective. There is an objective standard by which we can determine right and wrong. Good and Bad. Wickedness and Righteousness.

Here’s what sin is.

  1. Transgression of the law is sin.

    1. (I John 3:4).  The rule of law

    2. Christ has a law (Galatians 6:2).

    3. Paul affirms we are under the law of Christ (1 Cor 9:21).

    4. Jesus in fact,  condemned those who practice  lawlessness.  (Matthew 7:21-23).

    5. Sin is bad because it disrespects Christ.  And disregards His law.

  2. Unrighteousness is sin.  T

    1. I John 5:17 How do we know what is morally right?  God has revealed it in the gospel (Romans 1:16-18).

    2. Unrighteousness is a work of the flesh.  (Gal. 5:17-23).

    3. Christians are warned against engaging in unrighteous behavior (Romans 1:20-32; 6:13; 1 Corinthians 6:9-11).  Fornication. Adultery. Homosexuality. Lasciviousness. Lewdness.  All of these are sin.

    4. They are an affront to a holy, righteous God.  They are incompatible with His nature.  And inconsistent with our profession of godliness.

  3. Failure to do good is sin.

    1. James 4:17

    2. We must do more than NOT do the forbidden.

  4. Violation of your conscience is sin.

    1. Romans 14:23 The conscience is an internal, moral regulator.  It may condemn or excuse.

    2. When it is properly taught by God’s Word, it convict us. Correct us.  Or censure us.  It’s bad to violate our conscience because we undermine our integrity.  Our honor.  Our virtue.

4 things about sin that are destructive and despicable.

  1. Sin enslaves the Will. John 8:34

  2. Sin stains the soul. The Bible says sin is like a prized pig that was washed and returns to wallowing in the mud.  Sin is seen in the dog that returns to his vomit. (2 Peter 2:22) Sin soils the soul!  Sin is sordid!  Sin is sickening!

  3. Sin scars the conscience. (Galatians 6:7-8).

  4. Sin severs relationships.  The sin of adultery destroys marriages.  The sin of rebellion ruins relationships between parents and children.  The sin of selfishness hurts homes. Sin can disunite brethren. Stir up trouble. Cause division in churches.  Sin hinders the work of God.  Discourages faithful Christians.  Results in souls being unsaved.

  5. Sin separates us from God (Isaiah 59:1-2)

Consider these five Bible facts about sin:

  1. All sin is an affront to a holy God ( Genesis 39:9)

  2. Sin separates us from the fellowship of God (Isaiah 59:1-2)

  3. Committing one sin is regarded as being guilty of the law of God (James 2:8-13)

  4. The wages of sin is death (Romans 6:23).

  5. All of us are guilty of sin. There is none righteous. No, not one! (Romans 3:10)
