Christians in ALL Churches?

Introduction

  1. In many ways the issue is raised -

  2. Are there Christians in all churches?

  3. The answer is a problem of terminology (meaning of words)

What do they mean by “Christian?”

  1. Most have a broad view of this word.

    1. If you believe in Jesus = Christian

    2. Problem – James 2:19

    3. Is Satan a Christian?

    4. Many who claim to believe – don't tremble

  2. There are conditions to being a Christian.

    1. Matthew 7:21

    2. John 15:14

    3. Some religious groups –

      1. Accept homosexuality – membership and as ministers

      2. Accept divorce and remarriage without quesiton

    4. 1 Corinthians 6:9-10

    5. Galatians 3:26-27

  3. Matthew 7:13-14

What do they mean by “church?”

  1. Many religious groups claim to be part of Christ's church.

  2. Revelation 2:5 – Jesus can remove their lampstand

    1. Can one attend a church that does not obey Christ and still be a Christian?

    2. 2 John 1:9-11

  3. How many churches did Christ establish?

    1. Ephesians 4:4 – One body

    2. Ephesians 1:22-23 – Body is the church

    3. 1 Corinthians 12:20 – only one body – not hundreds

Conclusion

  1. Apply God's definition of a Christian.

  2. Apply God's definition of His church.

  3. There are not as many Christians as we think.

  4. Some other questions to ask:

    1. Do all these churches teach the truth?

    2. If YES, Why are they separate?

    3. Can a Christian participate and fellowship in a church that is not teaching the truth?

    4. Are all people who claim to be Christians – truly Christians?
