TITLE: How to Hate

TEXT: Romans 7:11-15 (Proverbs 6:16-19)

PROPOSITION: We must learn how to hate sin and still love the sinner.

INTRODUCTION:

          1. Many cannot separate - sin from sinner.

          2. Listen to these scriptures:

Psalm 97:10 Ye that love the Lord, hate evil.

Amos 5:15 Hate the evil, love the good, establish judgment

Jude 23 hating even the garment spotted by the flesh

Hebrews 1:9 Thou loved righteousness, and hated iniquity.

Revelation 2:6 Thou hatest the deeds of the Nicolaitans

Proverbs 6:16-19 – 7 things God hates

I. Text

          A. The struggle in each of us.

          B. Know what is right - don't do it.

          B. Hate the wrong - still give in to temptation

II. How to Hate

          A. Be a surgeon - remove disease- no unnecessary pain

          B. Hate the disease.

                    1. Cancer, pneumonia, flu

                    2. The sin - divorce, homosexuality, stealing

                              Abortion, murder, gossip, cruelty

          C. Aggressively oppose the THING.

                    1. Don't say, "You are wrong" "Drunks are..."

                    2. Say, "This is wrong." "Drinking is..."

III. We do it with ourselves - We can do it with others.

          A. Hate the things we do - still like ourselves.

                    I yell at myself when I play golf

                    I still like me – hate the shot I made

          B. Learn to hate the sin and still love the sinner.
