TEXT: Ephesians 6:4

PROPOSITION: Fathers are given a vital role in the family.

INTRODUCTION:

  1. Today is Father's Day. The answer to Mother's Day.

  2. 3 boys – whose dad makes the most money? Lawyer – talks for an hour, makes $20,000; Doctor – surgery for 45 minutes, makes $50,000; Preacher – talks for 20 minutes, takes 4 men to carry the money down the asile.

  3. Colossians 3:21

Provoke (to wrath).

  1. Parorgizo - (para - with, alongside; orgizo - to provoke or enrage)

  2. Thus, to anger alongside, to provoke another to anger or rage.

  3. Hebrews 10:24 provoke to love and good works

  4. Colossians 3:21 fathers, provoke not children to wrath

Bring up - to rear to maturity.

  1. Ephesians 5:29 man cherishes his own flesh

  2. Parents job – train them until you are an unemployed parent

Nurture -

  1. Education, training, disciplinary correction, chasten, teach, instruct.

  2. To train a child, educate or discipline.

  3. 2 Timothy 3:16 scripture is given for instruction

  4. Hebrews 12:5, 7, 8, 12 chastening, chastisement

Admonition -

  1. Calling attention to, mild rebuke, to warn.

  2. 1 Corinthians 10:11 written for our admonition

  3. Titus 3:10 after 3rd admonition

FACTS FOR DADS TO ADMIT:

  1. I am a dad.

  2. The home is the most important influence on my family.

  3. Because of its inherent difficulty and importance, fathering is the most dignified role I will ever play.

  4. Being a parent is one of the greatest sources of joy we can ever know.

  5. We all can improve.

  6. Everyone is unique.

  7. It is difficult to be a good parent.

Conclusion:

3 boys bragging about their fathers. "My dad knows the mayor." "My dad knows the governor." "My dad knows God."
