TITLE: The Dangers of Summertime

TEXT: Matthew 24:32-35

PROPOSITION: As summer approaches we must become aware of the dangers that are present and avoid them.

INTRODUCTION:

1.     Summer is an exciting time. School is out. Vacations. 
Camping.  Weekend trips.  Fishing.

2.     There are some dangers of summertime.

3.     Hebrews 10:25 “pleasures of sin for a season”

4.     Acts 24:25 “a more convenient season”

5.     2 Timothy 4:2 “preach word in season, out of season”

6.     Proverbs 15:23 “A word spoken in due season, how good it is.”

 

1.     Attendance Slump

A.    Vacations, Reunions, Weekend trips

B.    More subs in the classes - fewer students

C.    Elders understand - need to get away - vacation

D.    Don't take a vacation from God.

2. Contribution Slump

A.    Spend money on vacation trip.

B.    Away and forget to double the next week.

C.    The church’s work and expenses continue when you are gone for the weekend or on vacation.

D.    1 Corinthians 16:2 teaches “weekly” (regular) giving.

3. Dress

A.    I am not trying to “write the rules”

B.    Paul gives instruction on this in 1 Timothy 2:9-10
1. Modest = decent and appropriate for the occasion
2. Not showy or flashy
3. Adorned with “good works”

C.    Watch the trend entering the house of worship.

4. Church work "dead in the water"

A. Programs slow to a halt

B. Visitation almost stops – We are too busy to visit.

C. Bringing visitors slows down

5. Morals – Temptations

A.    More Opportunities                 Less Clothes

            More free time                           Less resistance

There are more teen pregnancies born in March – May
(Conceived in June – August)

6. Family

Too many separate activities – Less time together (even meals)

Home becomes just a house.
