Good News

2 Corinthians 3:17-4:7

Introduction

1.     News – is all bad – true, that is the nature of news

2.     Good news – rare, mixed with BUT

3.     Gospel – glad tidings, good news, gospel, preached, tidings, good –

4.     Total of 90 times in the NT – euaggelizo

5.     What makes good news – good news?

6.     Some passages to think about

1 Corinthians 15:1 – 4  

1.     Gospel = Good News

2.     1 Corinthians 15 – gospel – death, burial and resurrection

3.     Good news? – by itself – not good for me

4.     Others died, were buried, and raised – Lazarus – John 11 – not gospel

2 Corinthians 3:17 – 18

1.     There is liberty (for us)

2.     We are being transformed (changed) into the same image

2 Corinthians 4:4 – 4:7

1.     Something else needed

2.     But what must we see in those events if they are to be gospel for us?

3.     Gospel is not just historical events. It must change my life.

4.     Underline these phrases

a.     Verse 4 – image of God should shine on them

b.     Verse 6 – Who has shone in our hearts

c.     Verse 7 – We have this treasure

                                                    i.     Justification

                                                   ii.     Forgiveness

                                                 iii.     Removal of the wrath of God

                                                 iv.     Eternal life

                                                  v.     Redemption

2 Corinthians 4:3

1.     We have the good news (4:7)

2.     Don’t keep it a secret

3.     Is our gospel hidden from those who need it most? The lost?

This good news comes with a WARNING

1.     Must believe

2.     Must repent

3.     Must obey – baptism, proper life

4.     Must remain faithful
