TEXT: Hebrews 4:14-16

PROPOSITION: We must learn how to overcome our temptation to sin.

Introduction:

1. Eve was tempted; Adam was tempted, Cain, Noah, Lot, Abraham, David, Solomon

3. How can I overcome temptation to sin?

We are to Imitate Christ

1. 1 Corinthians 11:1 – Follow me as I follow Christ.

2. 1 Peter 2:21 – We should follow His steps

Was Jesus really tempted to sin?

1. Some teach that Jesus was NOT tempted like we are.

2. Hebrews 4:15

3. Not the exact same temptations

   1. The same areas of weakness – flesh, eyes, mind (pride of life)

   2. The same tactics – approaches

Christ is my High Priest

1. Hebrews 3:1 – Our apostle and High Priest of our confession, Jesus Christ.

2. Hebrews 8:1 – We have such a High Priest, who is at the right hand of the throne of the Majesty in the heavens.

3. Psalm 110:4 0 quoted in Hebrews 5:6 – You are a priest forever according to the order of Melchizedek

How should I react to sin?

1. Recognize the temptation and resist

2. Realize when we stumble, fail to resist

3. Repent and seek forgiveness and correction

4. Determine not to repeat the error
