TITLE: Mrs. Job

TEXT: Job 2:9-10

PROPOSITION: There are lessons to learn from Mrs. Job.

QUESTION: What?

KEY WORD: Lessons

Introduction:

  1. We often focus on Job – suffering, patience, trials of life

  2. Today – look at what we can learn from his wife

  3. The one statement of our text is ALL we know about her.

  4. It is plenty.

  1. She emphasized the present life

    1. God took “everything” away from us.

      1. If you focus on the “here and now” you miss a lot

      2. Luke 12:16-21 – Rich foolish farmer

      3. Tornado, hurricane, fire – loose material things – sill have life

    2. Same today – many look at the present, not the future

    3. Job 1:21 – Naked I came from my mother's womb, and naked shall I return. The Lord gave, and the Lord has taken away. Blessed be the name of the Lord.

    4. 1 Timothy 6:7 – For we brought nothing into this world, and it is certain that we can carry nothing out.

  2. She ridiculed her husband

    1. Instead of encouraging him

    2. Proverbs 18:21 – Death and life are in the power of the tongue.

    3. Galatians 4:6 – Let your speech always be with grace, seasoned with salt.

    4. Job responds -

      1. You speak as a foolish woman

      2. Can we accept the good and not the adversity?

      3. IN ALL THIS JOB DID NOT SIN WITH HIS LIPS

  3. She falsely accused God

    1. All this suffering is God's fault

    2. When GOOD happens – I did it

    3. When BAD happens – It is God's fault

    4. God is not the cause of our problems

      1. James 1:13 – God does not tempt any man

      2. Many causes – Satan, our weakness, bad choices

  1. She served Satan's purpose

    1. Satan works through people

      1. Eve to tempt Adam

      2. Judas to attack Christ

      3. Peter to hinder Christ (Matthew 16:32 – Get behind me, Satan)

      4. Men today – 2 Corinthians 11:13-15

    2. Does Satan use you?

      1. Ephesians 4:26 – Be angry, sin not

      2. Ephesians 4:27 – Do not give place to the devil

      3. You can OPPOSE or you can be Satan's SERVANT

      4. Matthew 6:24 – No man can serve two masters

Conclusion:

  1. She was a wife, mother, mother-in-law

  2. She allowed herself to be used as a tool of Satan

  3. We must remember our actions have impact on others
