  3. Every society needs an objective standard of morality

  4. Where would we find such a standard?


Law is Authoritative

  1. God has all authority

    1. Potter to clay

    2. King to subjects

  2. God commands

  3. He expects obedience

  4. Psalm 2:2-4

  5. God has rules

    1. #1 – There is a God.

    2. #2 – You are not Him.

    3. #3 – You can break the rules

    4. #4 – But they will break you


Law is Relational

  1. Shepherd to sheep

  2. Father to children

  3. Husband to bride

  4. King to subjects

  5. Exodus 19:3-6 3And Moses went up to God, and the LORD called to him from the mountain, saying, “Thus you shall say to the house of Jacob, and tell the children of Israel: 4‘You have seen what I did to the Egyptians, and how I bore you on eagles’ wings and brought you to Myself. 5Now therefore, if you will indeed obey My voice and keep My covenant, then you shall be a special treasure to Me above all people; for all the earth is Mine. 6And you shall be to Me a kingdom of priests and a holy nation.’ These are the words which you shall speak to the children of Israel.”


Law is Eternal

  1. God is eternal

    1. An anchor for our souls

    2. Our Rock

    3. A fortress

    4. Order in a world of chaos

  2. Numbers 23:19 God is not a man, that He should lie, Nor a son of man, that He should repent. Has He said, and will He not do? Or has He spoken, and will He not make it good?


Why did God give the 10 Commandments?

  1. Reveal God’s Standard

    1. Compass – points the way

    2. Thermometer – takes our spiritual temperature

  2. Reveal our shortcomings

  3. Bring us to Christ

    1. Galatians 3:24-25


  1. Law brought us to Christ

  2. Christ offers us what the law did not –

    1. Eternal life

    2. Salvation
