TO TOLERATE OR NOT TOLERATE

1 Corinthians 5:1-5

 

1.     Immorality

a.     Frog – boil and not realize it

b.     Galatians 6:1-3 – overtaken

c.     Soft attitude toward sin

d.     1 Corinthians 5:1-5

                                                    i.     Do not tolerate adultery, homosexuality,

                                                   ii.     Let them wait on the table, lead prayer, preach

2.     Doctrine

a.     Galatians 2:5

b.     Galatians 2:11

c.     Jude 3

d.     Philippians 1:17

e.     Philippians 1:27

f.      Titus 1:13

g.     Titus 1:9-11

 

There is a grace of tolerance

1.     Tolerate pain

a.     Endure hardness 2 Timothy 2:3

b.     Suffer patiently James 5:10-11

c.     Some things will never feel good

                                                    i.     Surgery – lose weight – ask for forgiveness

                                                   ii.     Job – study for final exam

d.     If worthwhile it will cost some pain

                                                    i.     Runner – “no pain, no gain”

                                                   ii.     Best things in life are free – but freedom costs

                                                 iii.     Might cost you – job, relationship, sweat, tears, your life

                                                 iv.     Ask not how much, worth it? 2 Corinthians 4:17

e.     Feeling good FOLLOWS doing good

                                                    i.     Run, train, fight – wear the crown

                                                   ii.     Obey – then rejoice

                                                 iii.     Say to fireplace – warm me and I will bring in some wood

2.     Tolerate the brethren – Romans 14:10, 13

a.     Everybody ought to be perfect like you, but most aren’t

b.     Preachers – many should do something else

c.     Elders – love the flock or get out

d.     Deacons – accept that some will complain, no matter what you do

e.     Members – in this church there are differences in:

                                                    i.     Political views

                                                   ii.     Wealth

                                                 iii.     Education

                                                 iv.     Ways of approaching a situation or problem

                                                  v.     Training, upbringing, methods of discipline
