STRICT AND LOOSE CONSTRUCTIONISTS

The Supreme Court – has one of two views about the Constitution

This lesson is not about political issues – but our view of the Bible

1. Loose – Bible has moral maxims, broad principles

   1. We must interpret in light of current culture and thought

   2. We must obey the spirit – but letter is not important

2. Strict – Bible contains specific rules that we must follow

   1. Word of God – Matthew 15:8-9

   2. Teachings of men – 1 Thessalonians 2:13

3. Faith vs. Opinion

   1. Faith comes first – Romans 10:17

      1. 1 Peter 4:11 – speak where the Bible speaks

      2. NOT: Bible does not say don't

      3. Faith is what I believe (not what I think) – Hebrews 11:1

   2. Opinion is what I think – regardless of what the Bible says
