FATHER’S CHARGE TO HIS SON

1 Chronicles 28:9-10, 20

 

Introduction

1.     David is near death

2.     Calls Solomon to carry on the work

3.     What would you say to your son in this situation?

 

Focus on what this father charged his son to do.

1.     Know the God of your father – 9

a.     Solomon needed to have a personal faith in God

b.     He needed to know what his fathers had done

                                                    i.     Abraham, Jacob

                                                   ii.     Noah, Moses, Joshua

c.     He needed to know God – holy, pure, powerful

2.     Serve Him with a perfect heart, willing mind – 9

a.     God deserves our service

b.     Think of all God has done for you

c.     We are to serve with a perfect heart

                                                    i.     Not sinless perfection

                                                   ii.     Mature, grown up, complete

d.     We are to serve with a willing mind

                                                    i.     We are volunteers

                                                   ii.     You can quit anytime you want to

                                                 iii.     Just know the rewards / punishment

3.     Remember that nothing is hidden from God – 9

a.     Genesis 6:5; Numbers 32:23; Hebrews 4:13; Ecc. 12:13; Ecc. 14:2; 2 Corinthians 5;10

b.     You can not “pull the wool” over God’s eyes

c.     Also – God knows the good we do

4.     Seek Him and you will find Him – 9

a.     You can find God

b.     You need to seek Him

c.     Acts 17:27

5.     If you forsake Him, He will cast you off for ever – 9

a.     Harsh – but true

b.     Exodus 32:32, 33; Ezekiel 18:4; Romans 6:23

6.     God has a mission for you – 10

a.     Life has purpose

b.     God has a purpose for you

7.     Be strong – 10

a.     We need strength to serve God

b.     Exercise your faith

8.     Do it – 10

a.     Nike motto – Just Do It!
