DRIFTING AWAY

Hebrews 2:1-4

 

1.     Study the passage

a.     No effort is require to drift away

b.     By doing nothing – we drift

c.     No one will reach heave by drifting

                                                    i.     One word for sin – miss the mark

                                                   ii.     Can’t stumble on heaven by accident

2.     Examples of those who drifted

a.     Israelites

b.     Early church – Galatians 1:6-9

c.     Restoration movement

d.     James 1:13-15

3.     Symptoms of drifting

a.     A changed attitude toward the work – decline in zeal

                                                    i.     Indifference toward the cause

                                                   ii.     Neglect in attending services

                                                 iii.     Slacking off on giving

                                                 iv.     Becoming critical of others

                                                  v.     Justifying sins, not repenting

                                                 vi.     Reject the cry of the needy

                                               vii.     Neglect Bible Study

                                              viii.     Doing things questionable

                                                 ix.     Compromise with error

                                                  x.     Angry at sermons that point out sin

                                                 xi.     Try to please religious world

                                               xii.     A martyr complex

4.     Take inventory

a.     2 Corinthians 13:5

b.     Ephesians 1:18

c.     2 Peter 3:17

d.     1 Peter 5:8

e.     Stand fast in the faith – 1 Corinthians 16:13

f.      Not conform to the world – Romans 12:2

g.     Take heed – Hebrews 2:1-2
