Can the Gospel Save Men?

Romans 1:16

Introduction

1.    God is powerful – creation, raise Jesus from dead, save the world

2.    Jesus statement – Matthew 7:13-14 – few and many

3.    If God is powerful and the gospel is powerful, why will so few be saved? How could man be lost?

4.    Answer: Romans 1:16 everyone that believes, 1 Corinthians 15 – believe DBR

5.    When people refuse to believe and obey – they will be lost.

Why don’t people believe the gospel?

1.    Pride and Vanity

a.    Education – too smart

b.    Human philosophy

c.    Science / Evolution

2.    Blinding of Satan – 2 Corinthians 4:3-4

3.    Confusion – 2 Corinthians 11:14-15

4.    Perverting of the gospel – Galatians 1:6-9, 2 Peter 3:16

5.    Unwilling to obey – 2 Thessalonians 1:7-9; Hebrews 5:8-9; Matthew 7:21

6.    People, friends, relatives – Matthew 10:35-37

Conclusion

1.    Yes. The gospel is still powerful, able to save

2.    But one must believe and obey.
