TITLE: Amen

TEXT: Deuteronomy 27:15-26

PROPOSITION: Worship is not a spectator event.

INTRODUCTION:

            2. Meaning of "Amen"

                        "So be it."  "I agree"  "I consent to that idea"

                        "May it be so."

I. Who can say "Amen"?

            A. Women        Numbers 5:22

            B. Jesus           Revelation 3:14

            C. Congregation           Nehemiah 5:13; 8:6; Ps. 106:48

            D. Visitors        1 Corinthians 14:163

II. Why did we quit?

            A. It was common in the days of Campbell and Stone

            B. Common up to the 40's and early 50's

            C. Then -- We changed to:

                        1. Stiff              2. Formal                      3. Cold

                        4. Ritualistic     5. Tradition-bound         6. Sophisticated

III. When should we say, "Amen"?

            A. Prayer

            B. Song

            C. Sermon point

            D. Scripture reading

MOST SHOULD AGREE WITH THESE

Phil. 4:13 I can do all things through Christ which strengtheneth me.

Phil. 4:19 But my God shall supply all your need according to his riches in glory by Christ Jesus.

Phil. 2:5 Let this mind be in you, which was also in Christ Jesus.

Eph. 1:3 Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who hath blessed us with all spiritual blessings in heavenly places in Christ.

Eph. 1:7 In whom we have redemption through his blood, the forgiveness of sins, according to the riches of his grace.

Eph. 2:8-9 For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God: Not of works, lest any man should boast.

Eph. 3:10 To the intent that now unto the principalities and powers in heavenly places might be known the manifold wisdom of God.

Gal. 1:8 But though we, or an angel from heaven, preach any other gospel unto you than that which we have preached unto you, let him be accursed.

Gal. 2:20 I am crucified with Christ: nevertheless I live; yet not I, but Christ liveth in me: and the life which I now live in the flesh I live by the faith of the Son of God, who loved me, and gave himself for me.

Gal. 4:4-5 But when the fullness of time was come, God sent forth his Son, made of a woman, made under the law, To redeem them that were under the law, that we might receive the adoption of sons.

Gal. 6:2            Bear ye one another's burdens, and so fulfill the law of Christ.

CHALLENGE THEM TO AGREE WITH THESE

Eph. 4:26-27 Be ye angry, and sin not: let not the sun go down upon your wrath: Neither give place to the devil.

Eph. 4:31 Let all bitterness, and wrath, and anger, and clamor, and evil speaking, be put away from you, with all malice:

Eph. 4:32 And by ye kind one to another, tender-hearted, forgiving one another, even as God for Christ's sake hath forgiven you.

Eph. 5:18 And be not drunk with wine, wherein is excess; but be filled with the Spirit;

Eph. 6:1 Children, obey your parents in the Lord: for this is right.

Eph. 6:11 Put on the whole armor of God, that ye may be able to stand against the wiles of the devil.

Rom. 12:1 I beseech you therefore, brethren, by the mercies of God that ye present your bodies a living sacrifice, holy, acceptable unto God, which is your reasonable service.

Rom. 12:2 And by not conformed to this world: but be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind, that ye may prove what is that good, and acceptable, and perfect will of God.

Rom. 12:10       Be kindly affectioned one to another with brotherly love; in honor preferring one another;

Rom. 12:14       Bless them which persecute you: bless and curse not.

Rom. 12:15       Rejoice with them that do rejoice, and weep with them that weep.

Rom. 12:18       If it be possible, as much as lieth in you, live peaceably with all men.

Rom. 12:21       Be not overcome with evil, but overcome evil with good.

I Thess. 5:17    Pray without ceasing.

I Thess. 5:21    Prove all things; hold fast to that which is good.

I Thess. 5:22    Abstain from all appearance of evil.

I Thess. 5:16    Rejoice evermore.

I Thess. 5:18    In everything give thanks: for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus concerning you.

I Cor. 15:58 Therefore, by beloved brethren, be ye steadfast, unmovable, always abounding in the work of the Lord, forasmuch as ye know that your labor is not in vain in the Lord.
