INTRODUCTION:

  1. Most of us know the story of the fall of ancient Jericho.

  4. LESSON: When walls come down the enemy can enter.

Truth and Error

  1. Today – relativism, subjectivism
  2. Bible is God’s Word – Truth – John 17:17
  3. Word of God – Bible is:
    1. Right – Psalm 33:4
    2. Settled in heaven – Psalm 119:89
    3. Perfect – James 1:25
    4. Never pass away – Matthew 24:35
    5. God given – 2 Peter 1:20-21

Proper worship and will worship

  1. John 4:24 – Worship in spirit and truth
  2. Colossians 2:23 – will worship (doing what I like, enjoy) is wrong
  3. Worship is not about US – It is ALL ABOUT GOD.

Bible preaching and emotion driven entertainment

  1. “I love to tell the story” – The old, old story
  2. Mark 16:15 – Preach the gospel – tell the story
  3. 1 Peter 4:11 – Speak as the oracles of God

Verbally inspired, inerrant Bible and fallible, human document (unreliable, not authority for me, full of myths, legends, and traditions)

  1. 2 Timothy 3:16-17 – all scripture is inspired of God
  2. 2 Peter 1:20-21 – spoke as they were moved by the Holy Spirit

Plan of Salvation and human ideas

  1. Salvation is a free gift of God’s grace – Ephesians 2:8-9
  2. To receive that gift God requires of us:
    1. Faith – Hebrews 11:6
    2. Repentance – Acts 17:30
    3. Baptism – Acts 2:38
