TITLE: Were they real days of creation?
TEXT: Genesis 2:1-3
PROPOSITION: God created the world in 6 literal days.
QUESTION: Why?
KEY WORD: Arguments
SCRIPTURE READING: Same
INTRODUCTION:
- This
sermon is not an expose of the theory of evolution.
- Theory
– Theistic Evolution – is gaining among Christians.
God started – evolution continues
God = Who? And Evolution = How?
- How
long did creation take?
HERE ARE SOME ARGUMENTS TO CONSIDER:
- Hermeneutics
– There is nothing in Genesis (or elsewhere) to indicate otherwise.
Rule – Taken in common and ordinary sense unless otherwise
demanded.
- Photosynthesis
– Plants must have sunlight for life processes.
Each day consists of a light period and a dark period.
If a day were 200 K years = 100 K light, then 100 K dark.
- Interdependence
– What of the plants that depend on insects to pollinate and the
insects that depend on plants?
Yucca moth and Yucca plant – both must have each other.
- Hebrew
word – Hebrew word "yom" is used 395 time in Pentateuch = translated
day.
- Ordinal
Number – A definite numerical value is given to YOM (Indicates
measurable, limited)
- Must
change – The 7th day is not distinguished from the first 6.
- Same
Days – Exodus 20:9-11 – Day in verse 9 is same as day in verse 11
- Finished
– Genesis 2:1 – all was completed (not evolving) in 6 days.
